What makes Blackburn the perfect place for HGV/LGV training?
Blackburn is located on the southern edge of the Ribble Valley, north of the West Pennine Moors and, thanks to excellent transport links to the M65, M66 and M6 motorways, is within easy reach of Preston, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and the wider UK. With this in mind, it’s no wonder that Blackburn is a centre for HGV businesses. Blackburn also has direct rail links to Burnley, Colne, Leeds, York, Preston, Blackpool and Manchester Victoria station, with a wide network of bus services served from an interchange built in 2016. The town has a long association with textile manufacturing and is an important county administrative centre. Blackburn thrived during the Industrial Revolution, rapidly becoming a hub for textile manufacturing. As a result, the Leeds and Liverpool Canal runs through Blackburn, helping to facilitate Blackburn’s industrial growth.
Over recent decades Blackburn town centre has undergone significant investment and redevelopment, including The Mall Blackburn which opened in 2006. Blackburn Market continues to thrive and now offers a wide range of locally farmed lamb and beef, and products such as Lancashire cheese. Many of the town’s population of 156,000 work for Blackburn’s major employers including Blackburn College, Thwaites Brewery, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust and BAE Systems located nearby in Samlesbury Aerodrome.
Thanks to Blackburn’s rich in industrial heritage and historical significance, the town is an important transport hub for Lancashire and indeed an ideal centre for HGV/LGV training, providing a link between the major cities of Leeds, Bradford and Manchester. Its strategic location has played a crucial role in its development from a Roman settlement to a thriving hub for textile manufacturing. The town’s growth continues with significant investments in its town centre, reflecting a blend of historical legacy and modern dynamism. This ongoing transformation, coupled with its strong employment opportunities, cements Blackburn’s status as a key player in Lancashire’s industrial and cultural landscape.
